Here at TBFS we are always looking at ways to improve our health but working full time sometimes makes that challenging and we end up reaching for a quick fix that doesn't do much to nourish our body. 

When we discovered @PANACHE we were like kids in a candy shop and are forever scheduling meetings there as an excuse to indulge. Everything on the menu is not only beautiful and delicious but also nourishing and allows us to feed our body the right things - even when we are flat out! Every single thing we have tasted at the cafe has been amazing and whether you are gluten free, dairy free, vegan or just looking for a delicious and heathy toastie on the way to work they have you covered!

We spoke to Jenna Stummer - one half of the power mother daughter duo who run @PANACHE and mastermind behind thegreenlabel.co/ about what motivated them to start this treasure and and why you should chuck out your easy mac and head into @PANACHE for your lunch break instead!

What motivated you to start @ PANACHE?

My mum opened @ PANACHE in November 2012 to provide quality,fresh, healthy and price friendly options to office workers in the CBD. She developed a very unique, warm and inviting café as not only did she want to offer a "sanctuary" in the City but she wanted to come to work each day and love being where she was.

As the “Green Revolution” was beginning to reach the shores of WA I decided to give up my corporate career in media and marketing and enter into the business with my mum in October 2013 to most importantly learn from her and grow the business together to new heights.

Being on my own health journey, the game plan was to introduce a “clean-eats” brand of cold pressed juices and healthy, wholefood breakfast and lunch options – something that was vey hard to find in the city and something we wanted to make available for others working Monday-Friday. Thus, “thegreenlabel.co/” was born.

The response and off-take of the business has been quite remarkable and we are in the fortunate position of being able to evolve on the run.

So many people working in the city forget to actually take care of their nutrition during the day. How does @PANACHE aim to combat that?

Our concept is pretty simple. Providing city workers with healthy, wholesome food at an affordable price. We make everything up freshly every morning in our very own kitchen. We enjoy seeing people come in for breakfast and/or lunch and being able to choose items that are price-friendly and being able to enjoy food that is nourishing, fresh and of course tasty.

Talk us through the process of constructing a daily menu @PANACHE?

We have a “living menu” in store – we have a variety of items on offer than sometimes vary from week-to-week to keep things interesting!

Have you ever had challenging times with the business and what has kept you going?

Our biggest challenge is catering to everyone’s needs and different diets. We try to incorporate gluten free, dairy free, vegan and paleo items, however we just like to stick to our basic idea of offering healthy and wholesome food that most people can enjoy!

What are some quick and easy ways for our readers to improve their day-to-day eating habits?

We encourage everyone to cut out as many processed foods as possible, and to always eat breakfast! One tip we can offer is that there is always a “healthier” option – for example, instead of having an iced coffee full of ice cream and sugar, try it with fresh espresso, organic almond milk, maca powder and some unprocessed honey. It tastes delicious!

For those who are a little hesitant about the green smoothie what benefits can they expect?

We are no nutritional experts, but we have worked with ex-Fremantle and Wildcats Dietitian Julie Meek who has guided us through. Drinking a Green Smoothie is a great meal-on-the-run loaded with all your essential fruit and vegetables. Our favourite green smoothie is our “SuperGreens”: kale, celery, avocado, barley and wheat grass, spirulina, chlorella, blueberries, almond milk, coconut water and unprocessed honey. It’s one of our most popular smoothies!

Favourite thing on the menu at the moment?

Our house-made organic almond milk that we’re using in all of our coffees, matcha lattes and chai drinks, as well as our blueberry, lemon and coconut chia breakfast!

Most memorable moment so far?

Going to Bali with Mum and researching organic and wholefoods in UBUD – we brought back some really fresh and innovative ideas.

Have you got any exciting new plans that you can share with us?

We have something exciting planned for the summer months! All we can say is stay tuned!

What are you most looking forward to in Perth in the coming months?

The warmer weather and lots of cold-pressing!
