Total babe Elli gave us the inside scoop into Brand E, leathers and basic cottons - our kind of wardrobe.
Talk us through your design process, minimalist cuts and monochrome leathers are right up our alley so we’ve quickly become huge fans.
The initial design process for me all stemmed from what I saw as a shortage of key wardrobe pieces available to purchase.
As you can see, I am a huge advocate for minimalist cuts and sleek silhouettes, and do prefer to maintain a rather black and white colour palette for my collections.
My concept is to basically create essential staples suitable to wear all year round. I've developed pieces for both men and women, using a range of high-quality materials such as soft lambskin, cowhide, stingray and organic cottons.
I found myself frustrated with the designer price tag that came with many of these go-to pieces, so I am pleased that I can offer luxurious garments that aren't ridiculously costly.
We really like that you cater for both guys and girls as it’s becoming a rarity with independent labels these days, will you stick with it?
Yes, I definitely will continue accommodating to the unisex market. I find enjoyment in developing a basics range of t-shirts for men. Something so simplistic, however a well- cut tee really does makes such a difference on the body. I'm starting to understand that men can be just as picky when it comes to their cuts and quality materials. At the moment, I feel options for basic, middle of the range menswear is lacking and this is something I would really like to nail.
I think Men appreciate consistency, so in saying this I think they are prone to invest in great quality pieces that will last the test of time. Stay tuned, as I have more menswear in the works at the moment!
We’re into leathers all year round, and when we’re not in leather it’s a plain tee! Any tips for styling them in the heat and winter?
I love nothing more than being able to throw on a simple Cotton Tee with my Boyfriend Leather shorts, a cute sandal and accessories with a beautiful bag (Yes, I am a bag lady).
In the winter I love to rug up, The Stretch Leather Pants with a Shirt, a Woolen Jumper and some Boots.
Also The New Moto Jacket, with a pair of ripped denim jeans will do the trick. I've also introduced a leather halter into the range, as they are so versatile and accessible, even in the hotter months.
Looking after leathers is a big deal when you’ve invested in an item and want to prolong it’s life, any things we should or shouldn’t do?
I prefer leather when its worn in, as it is a very durable fabric, so my advice would be the more you wear it, the better it looks!
I find it essential that my leather pieces are carefully stored, ensuring I always hang my garment to decrease the chances of them becoming deformed. I also recommend that you waterproof your leather, especially in winter. I like to use a leather conditioner on my bags.
Are there any big plans this year for BrandE?
We've just recently shot the Autumn Winter campaign 'Nostalgia', and I am really pleased with the final outcome. As this is only my second collection, I am still taking it slow. Its important to me that I get the pieces right.
I am working on some exciting new pieces to expand the range and really listening to what the Brande customer wants!
There’s been some pretty amazing moments in pop culture when leather has been the star, (we’re thinking Sandy in those pants) who would be you’re ultimate muse?
I find inspiration from the likes of models Abbey Lee Kershaw and Freja Beha Erichsen, along with Blogger Alexandra Spencer from 4th and Bleeker. I think they all are so consistent with getting the laidback and uncomplicated look right. I think their style is similar to the average BrandE customer, in the sense my customers like to invest in key pieces and team it back with effortless basics.
