What is The Boyfriend Shirt?

A Case For The Headband, A TBFS Hair Tutorial.

Despite the flashbacks of Sandra-Dee and the practicalities they offer when washing one's face, it seems the humble headband has made its way back into the wardrobe rotation. Perhaps it was the urge to somehow control a bob when a topknot just wasn't going to cut it, but I found myself lurking in the accessories aisle eyeing off a matte black headband...

In recent times it seems there have only been two big supporters of the headband 1. Blair Waldorf and 2. young girls under the age of 6. Neither of which (I like to think) my style is aligned with, however, here I am sitting proudly with a piece of plastic stretched across my head. Further still, it seems that it's not just the headband that's come to join the party, headscarves and velvet ribbons have come along for the ride as well. With an undeniable air of Parisian-chic, they add a feminine edge to the go-to uniform of denim and a shirt.

It's an exciting development in hair accessories which let's face it ever since the days of the butterfly clip have been somewhat neglected. Who knows where this may go...perhaps all those lads with shoulder-length hair will adopt a tortoiseshell band instead of their man bun?

We teamed up with the wonderful team at Toni & Guy Perth to let the experts teach us how to perfect our hair accessories game. The products used below are all by LabelM - and worked a treat!

The ever amazing Faye, from Toni & Guy talks us through her styling tips...

Lou - The Textured Pony
PREP - Spray Volume Mousse into the roots of your hair and blast dry upside down to get some serious root volume! Using Blow Out Spray, tame the flyaways by spritzing a little on each section whilst smoothing over with a large round brush.

MAKE WAVES- Using the new GHD Gold styler, take big section starting from the nape of your neck and hold vertically as you rotate the styler down your hair. (Alternate which way you go to avoid big clumps of curl!) And remember to curl away from your face!

SPRAY IN PLACE - A light spritz of hairspray should do it before letting your curls cool and shaking them up by running your fingers through! (The more you shake, the more chic it gets!)

PONY TIME - Take a clear elastic and pull your hair into place. Check you are happy with the height of your pony (cheekbone height is my fave!) Secure with the elastic and get pulling out some pieces to make it look more voluminous...     Wrap around your favourite headscarf for the overall look and spritz with Texturising Volume Spray to give a beach feel to your pony.

VOILA!
