An Ode to Statement Sleeves.

Oversized sleeves are not a ‘new’ thing. Seen years ago on the likes of Bingle (via Perth’s own Ellery) I admired the look from afar but put it in the “not for normal people” basket. However we have been dipping our toes in the trend for a few months now and now are total statement sleeve converts and are here to tell you how you can be too.

A statement sleeve is never too overdone or underdone. It allows you to bring the drama but still seem casual and nonchalant (read: it goes with your bed hair just as well as a blow out). Perfect for your boyfriend jeans or in the office it is WAY more versatile than you ever would have imagined. Although heavy on the volume, a statement sleeve is surprisingly easy to style and we love it with a wide leg pant for a show stopping statement of pared back with denim to bring a bit of fun to our day to day wardrobe.

As far as getting your hands on a piece our ultimate MBFW crush Anna Quan can hook you up with a monogrammed sleeve of your very own and for a more high fashion look we are devotees of Ellery and Talulah. We also saw a very clever hack from our stylist friend which involves stealing your boyfriend’s cufflink shirt and ironing the cuffs out for a quick and easy take on the trend.

Now that you have said statement sleeves you have to make sure that they don’t end up doing double duty as a napkin at the dinner table. We aren’t going to lie – sometimes it gets a little tricky but with a quick ruche at the elbow they become ¾ quarter statement sleeves so you can still reach across the table to the cheese board because #priorities.
